Sony SGPT111US/S Android Honeycomb Tablet 16GB Wi-Fi Bluetooth Review

I am happy with this thing overall. It's better than any other dedicated alarm clock currently available. Some people like using their phones as alarm clocks. I'm not interested in that because I don't want to hear notifications all night. Plus my phone is an iPhone so it needs to be attached to the computer to sync and charge.

The way I'm using this clock is almost as a picture frame + alarm clock features. I like the Facebook link. I have it configured to connect to my Facebook and display pictures in a shuffled slideshow. It's also easy enough to close that down and have a look at the weather. Some of the other apps seem silly. I'm not really going to lay in bed and read news headlines, but I suppose that might be handy if you use it on a desk.

The alarm settings are pretty good. They could be improved. There are some phone apps with better alarm setup. Once tablets get cheap enough this device may be in trouble.

There should be a way to turn off the alarm without looking at the display. I would like a physical button to turn off the alarm so I don't have to look at the bright screen immediately after opening my eyes.

In night mode the dimmed clock display still makes a pretty bright glow. I turn it away from my bed and it doesn't bother me anymore. I would like a setting to turn it completely off unless I hit a button, maybe just the snooze button to light it up to that dim level if I want to check the time in the dark. I still have my old LED clock sitting on the other side of the room for that reason.

Overall though, I like it and I'm happy that I got it at a nice sale price. Long term it will be replaced by a cheap tablet on a stand when the right one shows up on the market.
